"Then we will need to be quick. I take it that you can detect no other ships?"

"No Mistress, not within the maximum range that I am able to survey. This far from civilisation, I would expect ships to pass by only infrequently."

"So we have been fortunate to have this chance. Which way are they headed?"

"Roughly due North. They are probably heading for somewhere in the Bok'hainer Archipelago, but it could be they are going to Nom Malbra, or of course to any country beyond that that has a coastline."

"Well, let's see if we can start a fire big enough to get their attention, without benefit of a tinderbox."

2. It turned out that they couldn't. At least not without Astra using magic, which of course would require the use of a wish. (Though in that case, it would be better simply to wish that they were on the mainland.)
