Stranded!

"Then just where are we?" Astrid asked. It was late afternoon or early evening, wherever it was, and the gleaming white sand was spread out like a bed of pure sugar crystals. The sapphire-hued sea foamed gently against the beach, while behind them, a lush but not-too-dense jungle spread out.

"This is an island in the Tarel Ocean, mistress, south of but not part of the Bok'hainer Archipelago."

"How far are we from land?"

"The closest land is 251 miles north in the archipelago. The nearest mainland is the Kingdom of Nom Malbra, 308 miles to the northwest."

Damnations! "Astra can we step back through the portal?"

Astra concentrated for a moment, then shook her head. "Apparently, the portal has either vanished, or is simply not accessible from this end, Mistress."

Double Damnations! I don't want to have to waste a wish, but it may be the only way off this island! "Astra, are there any people on this island, or on any ships nearby?"

1. "Yes, mistress, there are several villages to the east about two hours' journey."
