The Fall of the Axe

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 48809

"True, you have been faithful to me," the Dragon said in response to Astra's statement. "So far. But did you not betray your own kingdom to serve my armies? Your allegiance is obviously to no one but yourself, and when a better offer comes along, you will just as soon betray me as well." "Wait," Astra pleaded. "I gave up everything for you. You can't do this to me! I betrayed my own family, I betrayed my kingdom, and I betrayed that fool Fred, but I was always faithful to you." "And do you regret what you've done?" the Dragon questioned. The exectutioner tapped his foot impatiently as he hefted his axe, waiting for the exchange to be finished so he could do his job. "I don't regret any of it," Astra assured the Dragon. "I did what I did and I'm glad I did!" Fred just looked on grimly, sickened by Astra's self-glorification right up until the end. "Then you may die in peace," the Dragon said, and Astra's eyes widened. "Finish her!" spoke the Dragon, and the axe fell, separating Astra's head from her shoulders. Fred looked away momentarily, the spectacle of a beheading still somewhat unnerving to him despite the fact that he was dead himself, and when he looked back to the scene...

  1. ...he saw Astra's spiritual form standing there, looking at him in confusion.
  2. ...he saw that someone else was being led to the chopping block following Astra's execution.
  3. ...he saw the Dragon looking directly at him!
