Defeated Hopes

"Put your sword away, Sigurd!" the young woman said. "I won't have you killing people indiscriminately anymore!"

"Be quiet, Rondel!" Sigurd yelled. "This is not your decision!"

"I'll show you what is not my decision!"

Amy trembled as Rondel stood up, hatred burning in her eyes.

"Stand down, both of you!" Lord Marcus growled.

Rondel sat back down, pensive, and Sigurd put his sword away. "A pity." Sigurd sighed, sheathing his blade. He hungrily eyed Amy's neck.

"Can I speak now?" the wizard said.

"Of course, Master Velus." Marcus said respectfully.

Amy sighed in relief as Velus stood up. Finally! Surely this attractive man would be a sexy voice of reason on her side.

"She is surely a witch." Velus said, examining Amy.

"WHAT?!" Amy gasped. "Not you too!"

"Yes." Velus smiled languidly, pacing around Amy. He stopped to stroke her hair and Amy shuddered at his touch. "A minion of the Dragon sent in human form. Nothing she says can be trusted."

"I knew it! Master Velus knows such things, being a Priest of the White Hand." Sigurd grinned. "Rondel you stupid hag. Let's kill the witch at once!"

"No." Velus said. "And I will tell you why. First, we do not yet know her true intentions. Perhaps killing her would trigger a magic trap. Yet we cannot let her go, as she will report back to the Dragon of our current whereabouts."

"So, we take her with us." Marcus grunted. "A hostage of sorts."

"Yes, that would seem to be the wisest option." Velus nodded.

Amy couldn't believe her ears. That wasn't a wise option at all! She lamented not listening to Nigel when he said the humans of this world were not to be trusted.

1. Kick Velus and escape into the shadows.
2. Call for Nigel, hoping he is withing earshot.
3. Surrender to the evil humans.
