"Very well," said the Valinor warrior. "After all, you and your friends will all be able to fetch
us a considerable ransom. Except the peasant boy who was turned into a dog. Perhaps
we'll keep him to help man our ships, or perhaps we'll simply kill him." Fred winced, stung
by this man's cruelty. If only he could do something to slay these evil marauders and free
his companions. But their weapons were much more powerful than his and he would have
no idea how to pilot their ships. There was nothing they could afford to do but wait. He
hated waiting. Astra, meanwhile, was frustrated that she didn't have enough understanding
of the situation to form an effective strategy. She hoped that after some time she would
gain enough understanding to defeat these vile marauders, but things looked grim. Exotica
was still recovering from what had been done to her and felt too weak to talk. While feeling
enraged and violated, she was also awed by the magical technology she'd seen. She hoped
she'd be able to glean some knowledge of how it worked before she escaped.
The Valinor raised his gauntlet, which glinted against the icy light of the northern sun. The mercury now turned light blue. "I have acquired a group of captives who will fetch us a fine blood-price," said the warrior. "Send out five warriors who can help take them in. They will not be able to oppose us, but they seem like the kind of fools who would try, so we should make our superiority clear."
