They Bed Down for the Night

Astra was again relieved to be rid of the snake, if only for a short time.
They both agreed that it would be a good idea for them to settle down for
the night, making sure that they kept clear of any ant hills. Neither
wanted to risk being woken up in the night. Astra had little trouble
dropping off, but Fred had a slightly harder time of it with his niggling
hunger. Eventually he too
fell asleep. The snake returned later, having snacked on a few rodents. Finding the two asleep, he coiled himself close by to Astra and stayed awake for most of the night, looking around. There were no animals in close proximity with there only being a slight breeze. For once there were no clouds in the sky, displaying the stars in all their glory. A couple of shooting stars streaked across the sky. If either of them had been awake to notice this might have wondered if they were a portent of things to come, having not seen anything like it before.
