This didn't sound like Belinda at all. Carola could understand that it might not be possible
to save Astra. The forces of the Dragon of the Southern Caves were many and strong, and
they were just two girls who, while trained better at arms than most men in Allaria, were in
no state to face a dragon even without an army of followers. If they faced the dragon now,
it would be suicide and their sister would die anyway. If they saved Fred and bided their
time, they would be able to take their vengeance upon the dragon and finish what their
sister had started. But though she clearly understood it in her mind, she couldn't bring
herself to believe it in her heart. She wanted to save Astra more than anything else, even
though she knew it was futile. She couldn't believe that Belinda didn't seem to care whether
her sister lived or died.
"You're right," said Carola, through clenched teeth. "But once we've rescued Fred, I want to help him kill the dragon. Don't try to drive me off. I have to claim the vengeance that is my right." Belinda seemed almost irritated at this. Carola was trusting her sister less every minute, but knew that she couldn't carry Fred out on her own. Until he recovered from the poison, she had no other choice.
