"I'm afraid it's almost certainly already too late for that. I had to choose between trying to save her and saving you and the knight. It wasn't possible to do both. The dragon's vengeance on Astra is to be a very public affair, so almost all of his guards will be in the crowd watching in the great ampitheatre. That gives us a chance to go back for Fred and to carry him to safety without being detected. If you hadn't attacked me back in the cell and taken me by surprise, we might already have been well on our way."
