Irena's Strange Reaction

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 46492

Irena's face contorted with rage. "No!" she cried. "Not here! They wouldn't dare, surely? I'll kill them!"

Before Fred could point out that this was surely merely another of the Dragon's illusions, Irena had clambered to her feet and begun sprinting towards the building. She seemed remarkably limber for someone who had spent a prolonged period chained to a trunk and who had then acquired several painful bruises from her fall.

Fred sighed. Irena was naked and weaponless, unless you counted a couple of inches of chain still attached to each wrist. He would have to follow her and try to protect her from whatever peril she was venturing into. (And he had an uncomfortable feeling that this strange golden building might be very perilous indeed.)

So Fred ran after Irena, calling for her to stop. But she took no notice. She reached the main gateway of the building some twenty yards ahead of him, and passed through.

  1. He followed her in.
  2. Before he could enter, a golden portcullis descended, blocking the entrance.
  3. As Irena went through the entrance, Fred could see that she had magically acquired a coating of what seemed to be gold paint. As the paint began to harden, Irena's running became progressively slower and stiffer.
