It didn't seem likely to Amy that there would be as many dangers near the beach as inland. It wasn't probable that there would be anything out on the beach that late, whereas around the spring there would probably be all kinds of things... What if Lord Fred had tricked her? Fred had acted like a man of honor, but she hadn't trusted the Lord Fred who'd appeared out of nowhere on her world and she didn't trust this one either, even though the fact that she was here now meant that he really was an actual knight and not some kind of nut-case--

Suddenly, she was hit by a visceral fear for her sister and her other self and ran back towards the sea. Once she found herself walking through the cold sands, she wasn't far from the fire that she'd kindled. As she approached it, she found that

  1. The three were still there, and Amy 2 and Rami were unharmed.
  2. Fred, Amy 2, and Rami were apparently gone.
  3. The campfire was surrounded by a squadron of weird metal creatures shaped like giant salt shakers. Amy had only narrowly avoided blundering into them.
