There was very little light by this time, so it was the sound of flowing
water that enabled Amy to find the spring. (She was reluctant to use the
lighter too much, as she was afraid that it might run out of fuel.
Besides, its small flame didn't really make much difference.) She
cautiously took a sip. The water was ice-cold, salt-free and tasteless,
which reassured her that it was unlikely to be polluted.
She drank her fill, and felt much better for it. Then she considered what to do. She could find her way back to the others easily enough, even in the near darkness. She could hear the faint murmur of waves on the beach, and once she was back on the shore she knew that she just had to head left and she was sure to return to her starting point before long. Her problem was, without having any container, how to get the water to the others. Or alternatively, how to bring the others to the water, assuming that she could manage to find the spring again.
