Betty-1 and Betty-2 tried as hard as they could not to groan out loud.
Kirk was certainly likeable sometimes, but they could never understand his
appeal to so many women on the series. He'd been annoying and smug all
this time. Scotty, on the other hand, had been very interesting to talk
with. They'd both noticed how Gloria seemed to gaze into his eyes as
much as into the warp core. It would be interesting if she ended up
falling in love with Scotty--although his overly chivalrous nature would
perhaps annoy her, at least he had a brain in his head.
Both Scotty and Gloria looked somewhat incensed at Kirk's latest attempt to pick her up. Scotty seemed like he was about to say something, but stifled it, suspecting that she'd be happier spending time with Kirk-- while he'd certainly had a few romances in his time, he didn't stand a chance against his captain in that area. But he did feel a little resentful that he'd been interrupted in the middle of explaining the warp core's cooling system. "Cannae I at least finish showing her the warp core, cap'n?" Kirk sighed. "Very well then. But... would you be interested in seeing me later?" "Not really," said Gloria archly. "Aren't you needed for something else on the ship." Kirk was about to respond when the Bettys, quite against their will, started laughing out loud. "Er, yes, you're right," said a chagrined Kirk. "I do have other business to take care of." He then walked out, like a dog with his tail between his legs. "Ye were a little blunt," said Scotty. "The cap'n is a good man, even if he is a wee bit full o' himself at times... I'm glad ye want to hear more about the warp core, though." "I certainly do," said Gloria. "And perhaps after that, I could go up to your quarters. But first, let's finish discussin the warp core." Scotty's face lit up, and he launched back into the technobabble. "Well, I guess Stacy won't need to take that test, then," said Betty-2. "But if she doesn't, will we get credit for saving her?" said Betty-1. "Hmm, good question," said Betty-2. "Maybe I'll take a look at the rules." She pulled out the Pocket Guide to Addventure.
