As she was shown over the ship, Gloria became more and more confused.
Eventually, as Scotty was explaining the warp drive, she burst out
with: "Look, I have three PhD's, and I know that most of the equipment
that I've been shown relies on pseudoscience and can't possibly work,
however advanced the technology might be. And yet, evidently it
does work. How?"
"Mr Spock said that you come from a different universe," Kirk said. "Maybe the laws of physics are different in your universe." "Ye cannae change the laws of physics, Captain," Scotty objected. "This is Star Trek," Betty-1 pointed out to Gloria. "So naturally it all works." "And not just Star Trek, but it's within Game 3 as well," Betty-2 pointed out. "Even causality won't always hold here, never mind the laws of physics. You should be used to that by now, Gloria. After all, you're from Game 3 yourself. But I suppose that until authors actually began writing about you, the effects wouldn't have been apparent. So for the first 22 years of your life, everything may have seemed relatively normal to you, even though to someone like me, from outside, what I've learnt of your life in Vaalhallah seems strange." Kirk had waited patiently for Betty-2 to finish, though from his blank look it was clear that he hadn't understood what she was on about.
