Boldly Going Nowhere

The Bettys wondered more or less simultaneously whether it would be a good idea to try to convince Captain Kirk that they were in fact from alternate universes. This would of course, depend on when they were in the Star Trek timeline--if this took place before the mirror universe episode, they would be less inclined to believe them. On the other hand, if this did take place after that episode, he might be inclined to think they were evil. Still, it was probably a chance worth taking. "I think you're making a mistake," said Betty-2. "None of us are actually from this universe. We've switched places with our counterparts somehow or something."

Captain Kirk scrutinized them warily, lingering an especially long time over Gloria's body.

1. Kirk believed them. He ordered other crewmen to take their places and sent them to sickbay to be analyzed.
2. He decided they had gone insane and ordered them to be taken to the brig.
