But she was interrupted by Current Stacy saying: "What's that awful noise?" She looked rather alarmed.

"Don't worry," Future Stacy said. "It's just the TARDIS dematerialising."

"TARDIS? Didn't you mention that before? What is it?"

"It's what we're inside. It stands for 'Time And Relative Dimensions In Space'. In other words, it's both a time machine and a space ship."

"So we are going to re-materialise somewhere else? And somewhen else? Where and when?"

"I don't know. The Doctor, whose machine it is, is inclined to play his cards close to his chest."

"I see." She thought for a moment, then went on: "You were going to explain how two people who don't look anything like each other can be the same person from alternate universes."

"Perhaps I can do that," the redhead said with a smile. "After all, I am the best qualified. I used to look identical to my alter ego until something very strange happened to me. It would take a long time to tell the full story. Let's just say that someone called Scott Chen, for reasons of his own, transformed me to look like I do now."

1. "To look just like me, in fact," came a voice from behind Current Stacy. She turned. In the doorway from the next room was standing a duplicate of the redheaded Betty. "Hi, I'm Melissa," she said.
2. Current Stacy digested that, then asked Future Stacy: "So how can you be the future me?"
3. Any further questions were forestalled by the terrible noise resuming, followed a few seconds later by the Doctor saying: "We're there! Or should that be: 'We're here!'?"
