Oy, a little late in the game to be asking! (Part 2)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 43088

Chiana

“But that’s ridiculous!” Crichton (Season frelling 4) sputters. “You’re telling me this Enemy came from some cheesy scifi flick from the 1950’s of MY world?!”

“Uh, don’t you mean that movie reflects the reality that they come from?” I put in, poking Crichton a little bit, verbally.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah!” he mutters, rolling his eyes in exasperation. “F*ck, this cross jumping reality shit’s messing with my head!”

Life’s like that when this Dark Tower business gets mixed up with someone’s life, John! Well, you don’t hear me complaining?

“Would say welcome to the club but not everything about it was disagreeable,” Inquirer adds, smiling a little as she looks over at her husband.

Oh, but that bit of business did agree with her.

Well, that aside it seems that some movie called Captain Atom vs the Evil Alien Empire (a favorite of John’s when he’d been six years old until later he’d realized how . . . utterly thin the plot had been and how pathetically two dimensional the aliens had been . . . the entire movie had been). Back at six, such stories were okay with clear, defined lines between good and evil. It’s not like that in real life. But that said even though the movie had been limited, it had still gone a long way in revealing the character of the Enemy.

And when you’re dealing with some race that sends back a note saying that the peace envoys you’d sent had been delicious, you know it’s either time to get the drez out of there to avoid them or something. In this case with Inquirer’s and Elrondir’s people, it finally came down to . . . rather final and stark answers. A dark solution that had been deemed impractical at first until Terra Prime had made it possible. A dark solution that this Enemy had actually comes up with (and would have used if they’d won possession of Terra Prime).

Wow. Well, it’s an old issue for them and what’s done is done.

Well, glad to see that it appears that Crichton, still not totally sure what to make of this Military and all that, but at least now he’s not thinking that they’re something like the Establishment (or the PK) waiting in the wings. While perhaps not Angels (true ones or whatever those Celestrials really are, super beings or whatever), the Military aren’t “baddies”.

Just put it down as nothing is ever totally “black or white”. Say as much

“Unless you hale from the Nile Empire Cosm,” Betty adds to her sister, softly. Don’t’ think she’d meant for us to overhear that (and doubt that Crichton overheard it).

Whatever.

. . .

Oh, right! My sister’s Validation Quest and all that-that Quest had been . . . frellin’ weird! But that said. . .

Chiana

Looking at him, I don't know what to think . . .

When I’d heard about this business of him pointing a gun at my sister . . . even IF he’d not in the end pulled the trigger (but Scorpy) . . . even IF . . . .

Sigh. Look, the relationship had been on the mend after that dren about this Crichton pulling his gun on my after I’d pulled his mivlocks out of the flames with that ship. After everything he’d been through, he’d had a right (sorta) in being a bit . . . cautious. But when I’d found out about what he’d done with my sister . . . While perhaps she’d forgiven him over it I’m . . . still rather cranked over it, to put it MILDLY!

. . .

Still not sure how to feel about it, really. . . .

I mean, it’s good on him that he should be asking questions on how we do things, I guess. . . I think. . . My Crichton would have questioned the tactics we’d been forced to use here, I think (he’s like that). Frell, I was questioning some of them a few microts . . .seconds there once or twice. But this guy here is . . . more battle hardened.

Hm, maybe he’s trying to find a sense of himself after being exposed for so long to the Uncharted?

Hm. . . Maybe I should talk with Betty and Ragan about the guy. Maybe.

Well, it’s for the greater good. Besides, we’ll put them back with the TARDIS before anyone (including them) . . .

. . . .

Wattaminute! Did I just actually say “for the greater good”?! That’s the same excuse that berks like Varla use and . . .

. . .

Well, then again unlike those %$#$ Establishment goons, it IS better we get those carriers fixed here and quick. Even IF those Demons (heh, would have laughed at such dren up until recently) left them alone, there are OTHERS out there that would be attracted to them like iron to a magnet. Others like this one guy named Maldis. . . . Things that my sisters told me about him . . .

They’ve been through enough shit (to use the Earth word for dren) as it is!

. . . .

Well, anyway, the others (including me) complete our introduction.

Crichton

“Okay, that was . . . interesting,” I manage after the last is done. They’d gone and did it all, but only thing now is the last part here with their plan I have issue with . . .

“Why do I have to stay inside the TARDIS this time?” I ask, perplexed.

“While you could pass for PK Crichton I fear that it is just not feasible,” the Doctor sighs. “If you and your analog over there see each other, only one of you shall walk away from it. Can feel it in my bones, John.”

Oh right! That business with doppelgangers and all that stuff with either a real good positive or a real BAD negative reaction. Bad as in murder and blood flowing! While I’d been lucky enough so far, with me meeting my analogs I’ll betcha….

“Yeah, can see me having trouble with my PK bra out there!” I mutter, nodding.

Uh, why is Walker looking at me strangely?

“Dearie, none of my business really but when did you start wearing women’s lingerie?” she finally manages. “Had heard that Farscape was kind of racy in spots, but . . . mind ya, stuff like that isn’t as big of issue where I’m from and all that, but . . . I think that back from where you’re from such stuff gets you talked about!”

Women’s lingerie? Where did she . . . .?

!

“Walker,” I say slowly. “The word bra is slang for brother . . .”

Later

The Doctor

Let’s see. How many are still back on Terra Prime, last time we checked?

  1. Dragoness Andrea - Dragon Synizn 2, Nimi'aia , and Triakoth - Elvaraniel, I remind myself. Still some, but then again best to concentrate on the task at hand!
