Fighting from the Inside

She still had her branch, and began stabbing with it. One of her blows managed to puncture the stomach lining, and the creature's own digestive fluid began to attack it from the inside. She felt it shake in agony.

Then it vomited her up. Suddenly it was light again, and she was flying through the air. Then she landed on her head, and was knocked unconscious.

When she came round, she found that her skin had a distinctly pinkish tinge, where the outermost layer had been eaten away. Also, apart from her eyelashes, she had not a hair left on her body. No doubt it would grow back in time.

There was only a deliquescing green mass where the thing had been. Had she caused that, with her attack from within, or had it been the work of her companions?

Talking of her companions:

1. They were standing around her, anxiously waiting for her to come round. They told her that, having destroyed the monster, they were now all regarded as heroes by the tribe who had intended to sacrifice them to it.
2. Where were they? She could see no sign of them. Surely they couldn't all have been consumed by the plant-creature?
