At least Astra now knew that Velus was genuine. The unsettling thought had occurred to her that he might have been a tool of the dragon, sent to spy on her movements.

"How many men does the dragon have watching over those working in his mines?" she asked the Mayor. "I don't know," he squawked, "but I suspect that some of the overseers will be creatures far more formidable than mere men - trolls, orcs, that sort of thing." "Perhaps it will be better to kill the dragon first. No doubt then his underlings will readily surrender. So, do you know where we can find the dragon?"

  1. Neither the Mayor nor Velus knew, which made things rather difficult.
  2. They led her through a maze of tunnels, in what they assured her was the correct direction.
