At the Gypsy Camp

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 41075

It really wasn’t as bad as he expected it to be, and it was all said and done within a matter of ten minutes. Afterwards Fred, being the emotional sap that he was, wanted to cuddle. But Jack would hear nothing of it.

Fred felt used.

“Oh, so it’s just ‘wham, bam, thank you ma’am’, is it!? We never talk anymore, Jack! We never share our thoughts!”

Jack shrugged.

“Fine! Let’s just go! We have a King to slay.” And with that, Fred stormed (well, it was more of a bow-legged waddle) out of the inn. Jack eventually followed, but not before defiling a few more corpses and packing himself a snack for later.

The next few days of their journey were uneventful. Dull, even. Anytime Fred would try and start up a conversation with Jack, the serial slaughterer would thwart his attempt in one way or another. Often with violence.

Fred, who had a history of abusive relationships, thrived off the mistreatment. It was all he knew.

Well, one day as they were nearing a small hamlet nestled by a river, they encountered a band of gypsies camped out by a grove of elm trees. Fred clapped his hands in delight. “Look!” he said, pointing ahead. “Real live gypsies! I love gypsies!”

Jack licked his lips. “I love gypsy stew.”

“You love gypsies too!?”

“No, gypsy stew.”

“That’s what I said.”

They starred at each other blankly.

“Never mind,” Jack sighed.

The gypsies never had a chance. An hour later, after the screams had subsided and the corpses had been thoroughly humped, Jack began gingerly stirring a great kettle full of their remains, while Fred pouted over in a far corner of the camp. “Be a good boy, won’t you Fred,” Jack called to him, “and fetch me some more water from the river?”

“You could have at least spared the juggling midget!” Fred called back, his temper mounting. It was one thing for Jack to wantonly murder innocents, but an entirely different affair when he killed off a camp of gypsies. At least in Fred’s book. “Or even the acrobatic harlot could have been overlooked!” And then he began to weep.

“There, there now, Fred,” the son of Satan soothed him. “It wont do you any good to dwell on the past. Think about the future. I know! What are you going to do with 20 bucks you get from Belboz! Think about that, while you’re fetching me some water!”

Fred took a deep breath and...

  1. Refused.
  2. Reluctantly obeyed.
