Cut Loose

"Fred?" she asked, facing the one-time knight.

Fred said nothing, gave no indication that he had heard her. He merely stared ahead silently, his eyes glazed curiously over.

Can he understand me? she wondered, her heart torn between gratitude and rage and pity. What did Vincent do to him? It may be no wonder that he couldn't take any more.

Vincent appeared well and truly dead, lying in a sizeable puddle of blood on the floor. Bobo, the puple toasterilla, stood as immobile as Fred. Possibly this was due to shock, or possibly he was simply unable to move without Vincent's guidance.

I need to help Fred - and ensure Bobo's no longer a threat! But first, I have to find a way to get my arms back! Unfortunately, there was an impediment to her progress - namely, a closed and locked door.

1. Marshalling all her strength, Astra kicked at the door.
2. Try as she might, Astra couldn't get the door open.
3. Suddenly, Bob stepped up and smashed in the door.
4. As she pondered the problem, she heard Fred say, in a raspy voice, "Aaaassstraa?"
5. As she pondered the problem, she heard Vincent utter one last spell from the floor.
