Like many another mad scientist and/or would-be benevolent tyrant (for
both is how he fancied himself), Vincent's greatest character flaw was his
pure, unalloyed, confidence that he was right - and not just that,
for this overabundance of self-esteem left him no room to consider the
possibility that he might, from time to time, be wrong. One of the thing Vincent was wrong about was his belief that he knew how to control carnage beasts. Vincent had calculated that after a great battle like the one he had just had with Shiva, his carnage beasts would rest for at least 30 days before their violent urges became too strong for his toaserillas (toaster-head gorillas) to control. In fact, Vincent had mistranslated the text about the care and feeding of humans who have been transmuted into these viscious creatures. The actual minimum recovery time was, in fact, only six hours! So it was that not long after Vincent departed for his vacation that the beasts began to grow restless. They needed a strong, controlling mind on the other end of their leashes to guide them, and the toasterillas simply didn't have what it took. The toasterillas tried their best, but eventually, the thrashings of the beast became too great, and the one trying to control Despair simply lost its grip on the leash. The minute the leash end hit the floor, it winked out of existence. Despair was now free to rend and kill, and that is exactly what it did to its hapless keeper. Like a chain reaction, the other three toasterillas also lost their battle and were, in turn, disposed of. Now the four beasts rampaged through Vincent's tower, smashing and destroying at will. Eventually, they came to the door out. It was too small to acommodate them - so they simply tore apart the wall around it until they could depart.
