It seems that I was just in time, the green-robed man thought to
himself. The magical battle between Vincent and Shiva had been detectable
from far away by those who, like himself, had sufficient magical
knowledge. Vincent had been aware of this, of course, but had thought that
his defences would be sufficient to keep at bay any prying eyes which
might pay a visit. And so they might have been, but for the damage caused
by the four carnage beasts.
There had been some pressing business that the green-robed man had had to see to, which was why he hadn't arrived till now. He had known that Vincent had carnage beasts of his own, but he hadn't realised till now that the number had been augmented to four. Nor had he anticipated that Vincent would be careless enough to leave them in the care of his toasterillas, so he had not foreseen that there would be any risk that they might escape. Luckily he had been just in time to prevent them going on the rampage across the desert and beyond. But now what was he to do with them? They had been amongst the great once, he knew, so he was reluctant simply to kill them, but he feared that they might now be beyond healing.
