Shen Tso considered leaving all three fountains alone, but she suspected
that whoever had set these riddles meant for her to drink from one of
them. Else why were the fountains here? (Not for the first time, she
wondered who could be responsible. Could it be Belboz himself?)
But how was she expected to choose wisely? There seemed no reason to prefer any of the fountains over the other two. An old Tarani proverb had helped guide her concerning one of the earlier puzzles. Perhaps there was one which would aid her now? She could think of no proverb that mentioned water, or the colours green or lavender. And the only proverb in which the word "golden" appeared was: "Silence is golden." That hardly seemed relevant, but with no other guidance she decided that she might as well drink some of the golden water and hope for the best.
