"But, Spock..." McCoy started to protest.
"Please hear me out, Doctor. By combining what I learn from melding with Nurse Chapel with what I have already learnt from the person who - for convenience - I shall still call Uhura, I may be able to identify just what it is about the Lieutenant that has enabled her to resist being controlled. It is obviously related in some way to her dual nature, but as yet I do not know just how. If I can find that out, it will be a major step forward. I may also be able to find out from Nurse Chapel just what the women's plan - or rather that of their controllers - is. There is also the possibility that whilst the meld is in progress I may be able to free her from her foetus's control, at least temporarily." Spock stopped talking. "Apparently even Vulcans have to pause to draw breath occasionally," McCoy muttered. Then, more audibly, he added: "Oh, very well, Spock. Have it your own way. You always do." "Thank you, Doctor," Spock said.
