An Untimely Visit

For a long moment, everyone just stared at it. When it buzzed again, Spock motioned to Fred to go answer the call.

Fres was surprised at first, but then realized it made sense. If a male answered, it would immediately arouse suspicion, and she was the only female in the room (except for the still-unconcious Christine). Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and punched the button. "Yes?"

"Sickbay?" came a muffled but strangely familiar female voice. "I'm looking for the medic in charge."

"Oh. Sorry, but Christine, uh, Nurse Chapel just left. She had to go check on something."

"I see." There was a long pause. "Listen, I really need to get in there. It's kind of an emergency."

Fred glanced back at her superiors. Spock's face clearly communicated the necessity of not admitting anyone. McCoy's was more conflicted - he obviously wasn't comfortable turning down a request for medical assisstance - but he was mouthing for her to get rid of them.

"Well, I'm not really a medical person - I'm just watching sickbay until she gets back. She shouldn't be long."

"But I'm - oh, never mind, I'll do it myself."

The transmission clicked off, and for a second, they thought they had succeeded. Then they clearly heard the sound of the override kicking in, and could only watch as the door slid open to reveal:

1. Yeoman Janice Rand, clutching a bleeding arm.
2. Yeoman Janice Rand, supporting a badly wounded Captain Kirk.
3. An ensign in science blues, clutching her stomach.
4. A woman who looked very familiar - and who was wearing a starship captain's uniform!
5. A Klingon woman, disruptor pistol drawn.
6. No one.
