Discovery Seems Imminent

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 39512

The girls froze as they heard the hatch opening. Looking up, they could see a square of night sky revealed. More importantly, two figures could be seen against that background, illuminated by the lantern that one of them was carrying. They were leaning over and peering down into the hold. Fortunately for our heroines, the lantern cast little light so far down, but if they were to attempt to retreat into the deeper recesses of the hold then that would increase the chances of their being spotted - or possibly heard as a plank creaked under their weight. It seemed that all they could do was remain motionless and await discovery.

The two men began to climb down the ladder leading into the hold, the snitch first and Irix right behind him. It occurred to Louise that, if there were only the two of them, then she and her friends might just have a chance of surprising them in the gloom and overpowering them. Of course, she couldn't communicate that to the others, but no doubt they were thinking the same thing.

  1. There were just Irix and the snitch. Perhaps Irix had underestimated the girls.
  2. But two more of Irix's men quickly followed the first two down.
  3. Just then, there came a shout from someone seemingly further along the deck, or perhaps over on the dock. "Hey, Irix! Look what I've found!" Hope revived in the girls.
  4. Just then, a loud ruckus was heard from the docks.
