Causing a Commotion

"What's that?!" the snitch asked in alarm.

"Nothing for you to be concerned about, I'm sure," Irix said haughtily. The figure of Irix stepped toward the railing and away from the door. After a moment, the snitch lifted himself up and followed.

Without hesitation, the girls raced for the back of the hold.

"Should we try to climb back up into our hiding place?" Thelma asked, out of breath.

"No time," Sigourney replied. "There's an empty crate over there - it's smaller, but it'll have to do. Hurry up - they could be back any second!"

The women piled into the crate and pulled the lid closed behind them. It was more cramped than the first, and smelled uncomfortable like overripe vegetables, but it would have to do.

The wait seemed interminable, but after a little while:

1. Irix and the snitch returned, muttering something about theives and vandals.
2. Armed soldiers from Prince Karo's forces clambered down the ladder.
3. Haljon and Bodgil returned, apparently having just broke out of gaol.
4. A group of rough-looking men stormed the hold and began ransacking it.
5. The noise from the docks got even louder, and they began to smell the faint odor of smoke.
6. A lone figure skulked into the hold - and who should it be but Nilth!
7. A lone figure skulked into the hold - and they were amazed to see their old benefactor, Count Yorga! (see ep 14294)
