The Mind Meld

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 39364

"That remains to be seen, Doctor," Spock replied calmly. "Once I have performed the mind meld, I shall be in a much better position to judge Lieutenant Uhura's mental health. I ought to be able to differentiate between hallucinations and genuine memories. The latter should have a breadth, depth and consistency that the former would lack."

Ignoring McCoy's protests, Spock told Fred to sit in a chair. Then he placed his hand on her forehead. Suddenly Fred found that she had access to all Spock's knowledge and memories as well as her own (whether originally Fred's or Uhura's). The experience was almost overwhelming, but just as she began to fear that her own personality would be swept away the contact was broken.

  1. "That was very useful," Spock said. "And for your information, Doctor, what the Lieutenant said is quite correct."
  2. "That was not as helpful as I had hoped," Spock said. "But for your information, Doctor, what the Lieutenant told us is quite correct."
  3. "You were right, Doctor," Spock said. "The Lieutenant's memories of having been 'Fred' are merely a hallucination."
  4. "I confess that I am puzzled," Spock pronounced.
  5. The contact had been broken because Spock had slumped to the floor unconscious!
