Fred considered the situation for a moment. If I refuse, all my -
Uhura's - crewmates are liable to be harmed, maybe even killed. This may
be the only way to save them. But if Spock does this, he'll find out who
I really am - and what will happen to me then? Quickly, though, Fred realized that she was bound by her oath as a Starfleet officer - not to mention her oaths as a Knight of Allaria - to help those who need it whenever possible. And if I have to expose myself as an imposter and suffer the consequences, so be it! She turned to face the Vulcan first officer. "Mr. Spock," she said, "I'll consent to the mind meld - but first, there's something you have to know. I'm not really Nyota Uhura. At least not entirely." Spock raised an eyebrow. McCoy simply stared at her. Sulu, Chekov and the two male orderlies glanced at her suspiciously. She took a steadying breath. "This is going to sound like I'm crazy, or under the influence of these alien babies, but I swear to you I'm not. My name - my original name - is Fred." "Fred?!?" McCoy exclaimed disbelievingly. "Yes, Doctor. Well, actually, it's Sir Frederick D'Honare, and I'm a knight. On a quest." Quickly, but leaving out nothing, Fred told relayed whole story. The dragon. The caves. The passageways. The voice. The wardrobe. The transformation. And finally, ending up here - a male knight from a midieval kingdom they'd never heard of, aboard a ship sailing the stars, inhabiting the body and mind of their female communications officer. Everyone in Sickbay was now staring at her with varying degrees of incredulity. For a long time, no one said anything. Finally, Spock said, in a voice almost too soft to be heard, "Fascinating." "So," Fred said, "If you're still willing, I'm still ready for the mindmeld, now."
