Sandra Seeks Shelter

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 37118

Sandra could not recall having heard of a keep in this region, but since the stronghold had obviously been abandoned a long time ago that was not too surprising. It had probably been built several hundred years ago when relations between the Great Kingdom and Aqualaria had been far less amicable than they were now, as protection against a potential invasion. She decided to investigate it, in the hope that it would provide her with some shelter and allow her to have a more comfortable night than one spent in the open air would have been.

The keep stood on a ridge several hundred feet above the floor of the pass, but the remains of a road leading up to it enabled her to reach it fairly easily. It was nearly dark by the time she reached her destination, and a bitter wind was swirling around the exposed keep.

  1. The portcullis had been removed (scrap iron was valuable) or had rusted away. At any rate, there was nothing to stop her walking in through the gateway.
  2. She realised that one corner turret seemed to be in much better repair than the rest of the structure. Then a gleam of light shone from one of its barred, unglazed windows. Someone had just lit a lamp!
