Magic is Not Minestus's Only Resource

Minestus laughed good-naturedly. "Hardly, my dear," he said. "I might not be able to harm you with my magic, but I could take a sword and lop off your head, or turn into my draconic form and fry you to a crisp. But please be reassured, for I'm not going to do either of those things. It would hardly be sporting. Besides, I'd like to investigate your immunity to magic, and it would not be sensible to kill my test subject."

Stacy did not like the sound of that. She decided to change the subject. "How did you get hold of products of advanced technology like that travelator?" she asked. "I have the impression that this is a fairly primitive world as far as science goes. Certainly Astra had never seen anything like it."
