"A sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from science."
Minestus told her, unknowingly inverting a famous aphorism of Arthur C
Clarke. "And you called it a travelator, eh? Interesting..." He appeared
to stare off into space for a moment before turning his attention back to
her. Stacy found herself idly wondering. I wonder if he's telepathic? She used this opportunity to think of the worse thing she could, and looked at him to gauge his reaction. He was staring at her like one would an interesting specimen, but gave no indication of whether he had caught it or not. As a matter of fact he hadn't. In his human form at least, he could only use magic to read minds. She was startled when he finally spoke. "Fascinating. I've been casting spells against you for the last few minutes. You never felt a thing?" Stacy blinked. "No, I didn't. Was I supposed to?" "Incredible," Minestus mused. "I've tried to turn you into various animals, make you levitate and tried to teleport you around this room, among other things. Nothing worked." "So what now?" Stacy asked. "For once, I'm at a loss," Minestus admitted. "Still, you can't go anywhere so we've got all the time in the world." He raised both eyebrows when he noticed Stacy's reaction to his last comment. "Don't worry! I've said I'm not going to harm you." Stacy shook her head. "It's not that. You just reminded me of an old song. I can't get it out of my head, now." "Oh? You've given me an idea. Can you sing it for me?" "But-" Stacy was cut short. "I will brook no arguement," Minestus furrowed his brow, his tone serious now. "Sing for me."
