They managed to reach the comparative safety of the trees. Astra kept an
eye on the situation of their possible pursuit from the treeline as she
had the best night-vision. Fred decided to carefully scout their
surroundings by moving from tree to tree. It would seem almost comical if
it wasn't for the seriousness of their situation. Velus meanwhile was
trying to disengage himself from Khrusti with little success. Fred had gone as far as he dared from the others. He had seen and heard little else other then a couple of owls and the chirping of crickets. Astra had also noticed nothing out of the ordinary. The strange bat-creature had so far not returned. Little did they know that the bat-like creature was not a scout for the inhabitants of the land, but merely curious. The inhabitants had an altogether different idea. They hid in the very trees that the group were among. Fred would have to have closely examined each of the trees individually to discover this. Why had they not done anything against the unwitting intruders? Simple. They were fond of giving their quarry the illusion they were safe, and then attack. Normally when their quarry was asleep. They were no means brave, these inhabitants of Feldspar. If any of their neighbouring countries invaded with a large enough army, they'd flee into the network of tunnels. These tunnels were well hidden. If anyone found a tunnel and foolishly entered it, they were not likely to leave alive. There was also something odd about this land. Any mages or other magic-weavers that may be in this hypothetical invading army would find their powers useless, any cast spells immediately annulled. Of course, those who found that out were never given the chance to tell anyone else about it. The inhabitants themselves were not aware of this either, as magic was an unknown quantity to them.
