Astra was surprised to see that the shadow belonged to a funny-looking bat-
like creature. It appeared to stare at her without blinking for a few
minutes before disappearing the way it came. This puzzled her, and she had
the strange feeling something was not right. She toyed with the idea of
waking Fred - after all, he might have a better idea what was going on.
Finally reaching a decision, she went over to Fred and shook him roughly
for a few minutes. This was the only way she knew to try and wake him
without disturbing the other two. It worked eventually, and a sleepy Fred raised his head and looked at the worried face of Astra. She could see his mouth working, but eventually he managed to speak. "What is it?" he mumbled. "I think we may have a problem," Astra replied in a whisper. At this, Fred shot up straight. "What?" He saw Velus stir, but fortunately didn't awake. He toned down his voice. "What problem?" Astra explained what she saw. Fred frowned. "I should have thought of that. The creature you saw could have been a scout for whoever inhabits this land. We better move, and quickly." Astra nodded, and set about the task of waking both Velus and Khrusti. Both seemed reluctant to wake up, but once the urgancy of the situation finally got though to them, they were soon wide awake.
