Where Astra had been bitten, on her upper arm, an angry red blister soon
began to develop, which expanded till it reached almost half an inch
across. Astra tried to resist the urge to scratch it. If the blister burst
it would risk infection and might well leave a scar. The pain was similar
in intensity to that from a wasp sting, but was longer lasting. She
attempted to
take her mind off it by keen observation of the area through which they
were passing.
Having finished examining the statues, they had returned to the shore of the lake, and were now once more heading northwards along it. At intervals, Astra would bathe her arm in the lake. The water was tepid rather than cold, but it was a enough of a constrast to the heat being generated by the blister to provide some relief. At least there was as yet no sign of her whole limb swelling up, which she had heard had happened in a few cases. (Astra didn't know about allergic reactions, of course.)
