...That should really be one observer. The Dragon's two companions
had
not long departed to their chambers, leaving their boss to watch the
newcomers. For some reason during the last few nights sleep had eluded
him, and tonight was no exception. He saw Fred and Astra investigate the ring of 100 foot trees and the plaque in the centre. They had been planted before his arrival there. The wisps of smoke with the red light that was only visible at night were his doing. They represented the visible form of the magic he was using to observe them. It was totally harmless - though of course they weren't to know that. He had made sure previously that there was nothing that could cause them to come to any harm during their explorations. They were also coming up to the small area of land that had a small number of humans living there. He had warned these villagers to make sure they kept hidden from view so not to alarm the newcomers who he was sure thought they were the only inhabitants. He would make his presence known to them at a later date, once they had become more settled in with their surroundings. He was still unaware to who they were. Like all Dragons he could read minds, but he hadn't done so as the thought of doing it without their knowledge was distasteful to him. He gave a small sigh, wishing there was a way he could halt his brother's evil ways, but also knew there was no chance of that. He could easily reach Minestus' lair within the Shreken Mountains, but his brother wouldn't be there. Not that cowardice had anything to do with it. In a direct confrontation he would be easily defeated, being so far from the source of his power, his Hoard. Fear did play a part however. If a Dragon classed as an outcast came within a certain radius of a normal Dragon, that normal Dragon would become Tainted, and any standing he had with other Dragons would decrease accordingly. In the more extreme cases it could get to the point where that Dragon would become like an outcast themselves, but in name only, and it was only temporary. However, that temporary period could be anything up to a thousand years, and that was a long time even for their own kind.
