They investigated a little way inland from the shore, in the hope of
finding more of the statues. They soon discovered several more, some which
were of a head alone and some which represented both head and torso. One
was different from all the rest. Firstly it showed the body as far down as
its knees. Secondly it was clearly female and - judging by the
exaggerated breasts, the clearly pregnant belly and the wide hips- was
intended to be a fertility idol.
"These statues show that this region was once capable of supporting human life, even though there seem to be no humans - or even animals or birds - here now," Fred observed. "Yes, I wish I knew why living creatures other than insects had abandoned it," Astra said, casually leaning against the female statue. Suddenly she leapt upright, stifling an oath.
