The Statues

It could still be seen to have to features of a human face, though. There was a heavyset brow with sunken eyes hidden by shadows. The most prominent feature was the long prominent nose, with slightly flared nostrils. Underneath was a wide mouth. There was some hint of what must have been ears but any detail there might have been had been worn away.

Fred and Astra looked at it in awe. Astra spoke first. "Aqualaria has a long history of carving statues. In fact, we still do carve them. But nothing to the extent of this." She noticed Fred walking around it and examining it from different angles. "Do you recognise it, Fred?"

Fred looked over at Astra. "No, I can't say I do. I'm just intrigued. I wonder if there are any others?" They knew that whoever had carved the statues had probably disappeared a long time ago, but it looked like they had time on their hands.

After a few minutes they found another, also close to the shoreline. Taller than the other, it appeared to be a head statue similar to the first on top of a crude torso, which basically seemed to be a block of stone with several vertical lines chiseled to represent the arms, though the two of them were sure it was more intricate than that.
