Fred heard Astra cry: "Look! A village." Her words pentrated his strange
hallucination, featuring
and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and an odd personage calling
himself Lots42
all vanished. Another after-effect of his regeneration, he
supposed. He shook his head to clear it and looked around.
Whilst Fred had been hallucinating, the desert had given way to fields of grain. Ahead of them lay a cluster of buildings: a farm, some farm-workers' cottages and an inn. It looked like they had made it out of the desert. Though it was very late, there were still lights showing at the inn. Neither Fred nor Astra had any money, but Fred hoped that his credit as a knight of the Great Kingdom would be good here, and that they could get a room - or preferably two - for what was left of the night. He knew that he badly needed rest, and even Astra was tired. They entered the inn:
