Fortune Smiles

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 32237

Annafrid:

It looks like this is going to be easier than we could have dared hope. The wagon is left unguarded, whilst the two servants go inside for a drink. Presumably they are confident that the Dark Mage's reputation in these parts is such that nobody would dare to steal the wagon.

We are tempted to do just that, but it is possible that the servants have been provided with some magical means of communication that would allow them to report the theft to their master. So we decide that we will stick to "Plan 1", albeit with a slight variation. If the servants are visiting the tavern, then we can be fairly confident that they have completed their shopping, so we will all hide in the back of the wagon whilst they are indulging themselves in the tavern. Fortunately it's a covered wagon, so we shouldn't be noticed. Admittedly, it will be a tight squeeze for three humans and six elves.

Once the wagon is a safe distance out of town, we can overpower the two servants. As there are only two of them, only two of us humans will be able to ride openly up on the front of the wagon when we arrive at the castle. The other one will have to go and hide in the back with the elves. Astra reckons that she's too tall to do that, but I want us to choose lots. Jarlath points out that all this is rather premature, as there will be plenty of time on the journey to the castle to make a decision.

  1. We wait until there's no-one about, and then Jarlath checks the wagon for magical traps, in case that's why the servants dare leave it unguarded.
