Our Next Move?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 32108

Annafrid

We try to decide on the best plan to adopt.

Later that night . . .

As much appeal as the frontal attack, with honor and glory, as sung in a bard's ballad would have, I cannot say that we would have a hope in Hades in it succeeding! So when nobody has the bad taste of actually suggesting such a plan, I find I feel a bit better, of only the fact that sanity still reigns. Now, I am not saying I doubt the sanity of my co-wife and husband. The thing is that sometimes . . . . I've notice that Astra's elfin counterparts here tend to be more prone to impulse. Glad to see that what I tend to call "common sense" hasn't been eclipsed by the Artizzas' transformation into elves.

.....

That does not sound right, does it? But then again I guess I have this little fear inside that whispers things. Things like perhaps Astras newest sisters didn't quiet . . . make the transition from human to elf with their sanity fully intact. After all, Jarlath had taught me that such alterations to one's Matrix (the foundation/translator between the physical and metaphysical) always carried risks of permanent insanity. But while I know that such insanities express themselves in violent, obvious ways, a small part of me still . . . worries.

As an aside, I consider myself NOT a bigoted woman, but I also must admit that with recent events I can tell that there is going to be a VERY good chance that Eternity Incorporated is . . . Okay, look. Before, when things were starting out the vast majority of the clan that made up Eternity Incorporated were human beings. Now? With the sudden influx of elfin children turning unexpectedly eighteen early (and choosing to become Champions) from Ti'mma D'Honaire's side of the family makes for a decidedly elfin majority, you see. Oh, but who am I kidding? Perhaps a more elfin view on life is what is called for if I and the other human beings wish to live out our long years we now have, being Champions. Also, we already (the entirety of the clan) had decided a long time ago to defer general leadership (in non-state of affair things) over to the "clan elders": Natthias John, the Elder D'Honaires (Jarlath's folk), and the Anina Thessamers (my co-wife's honorary mothers). Know that at least one of the last one, one Anina is now a hamadryad (i.e. not human), but that's besides the point. Early on it had been decided that Eternity Inc was to be a close knit family unit, a clan, with the elder humans becoming the Clan leaders. Why? Well, while there were other, older non-human members the thing here was that even the most patriotic non-human knew that for now until goodness knows when the clan would be anchored in a human world, working with human beings. The best way to cope was to defer to the elder humans, especially when those elders actually made it a habit of actually listening to them and trying to explain to them about certain quirks of humanity and such.

So my fears that eventually I and my fellow human beings will be marginalized are groundless. But whenever I see the Artizzas acting in a particularly "fey" manner at times, it kind of . . . creeps up on me, my fears.

Gotta work on that. Sigh. Besides, I am beginning to really like these new elves, really. Sure is odd that I'd have these fears, but....

Anyway, after a bit of discussion and observation of the traffic to and from the castle, we finally decide on some course of action. I admit it is not the greatest, but my suggestion seems to be the best of the lot. . . .

Boy, that doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, does it?

The basic idea is this: we sneak in disguised as servants to get inside the castle. We do this by sneaking into the town nearby the castle (where servants seem to go to get food supplies and such from what I can tell), ambush some likely servants (and put them out magically for a few days). Sneaking in by servant wagon (with the elves somehow being hid in some barrels or such), we'd gain entrance into the castle in the dead of night. See, from what we see the Viking guards seem most lax at that time. Maybe due to the hour and maybe due to the idea of their boss being safe, being so far inside home territory. Who knows, but that's what I see. And being (I hope to God) that the phrase "there's nothing quiet as invisible as castle servants" is as true here as on Terra Prime, we'll have our best shot this way. Hopefully, we can recon inside there, find out possible escape routs and such. Or failing that, just make a straight run at Angar and kill him, and them fight like Hell to get away. . ..

Not much of a plan, but the best we can come up with right now. Pray it works!

  1. So, we sneak quietly as possible into town (easier said than done but we do) and await a likely target. Soon, we see a servant wagon pulling up behind a local tavern by the looks of it. . . .
