Albert d'Lyon

Big John spied his opportunity. As Andrea hung her head in despair, Big John stood and crept around the table until he was behind her. He then gently placed his big hands on her shoulders and said in his most compassionate voice "Aww, what's the problem?"

Andrea bolted straight up in her chair. "Remove your hands this instant . . ."

"Aww, it's ok. It's just Big John," continued the sheriff as he massaged her shoulders.

"She said to remove your hands," said a deep voice softly. Both turned to look. There, standing not more than five feet from them was a tall, slender masked man, dressed all in black. The sheriff instantly recognized him.

"Albert d'Lyon . . . don't worry missy, I'll protect ya!" The sheriff drew his sword and charged toward the intruder.

Almost casually, Albert forcefully parried his thrust, making the sheriff drop his sword, which clattered on the wooden floor. Albert then directed the sheriff to an empty chair with the tip of his sword in the sheriff's chin. Albert ran the tip of his sword down the sleeve on the sheriff's right arm, tearing the sleeve open. A piece of expensive jewelery tumbled onto the table.

"My bracelet!" said Andrea, grabbing it.

Albert paused and looked at Andrea in the candlelight. Though she did not know it, he was her half-brother by the same mother. More than anything he desired to know how his mother was in his absence, and the part of her childhood he missed. But with the sheriff there, conversation was not possible.

1. Albert kidnaps fat sheriff then returns to speak with Andrea.
2. As Albert leaves, Andrea stops him, concerned about spending the same night in the house of a thief (or worse).
3. The sheriff shoots Albert in the leg with a crossbow he keeps under the table.
