For a moment nothing happens. The old man stares off in the distance
looking for horses. Andrea laughs, almost in relief. "I will be thanking
you, then for this team of horses." Just then they heard a voice. "Ooo ooooo, Maculay," came an obnoxiously high man's voice, "looks like you goofed again!" Andrea looked and saw nothing. "Ohhh, dear me, this man's been here since I've been a seedling, and he's never got anything right. Tsk, tsk." Andrea looked and to her astonishment a large tree had a mouth and face and was talking to her. "My favorite," continued the tree "was the time that, let's see, twenty years ago at least, when you were chasing that chicken all around for dinner and couldn't catch him. Then, you must have cast a stop time spell or something, for all else stopped for a minute but you and the chicken. Such a goof up! And then there was that time when you had to replace your roof. I couldn't believe it!" "The problem with getting a tree to talk," says Maculay, bending over to Andrea, "is that once you've got it to talk, it never wants to quit talking." "Oh yes!" continues the tree in it's high pitch, "that was soooo much fun! And how about the time when you were chopping wood that winter. Same thing!" The tree extends a branch and taps Andrea on the side. "It was so jolly! You never saw anything so in your life! The other trees are envious I have such a view of him." Maculay turns and begins to walk back to his cabin, Andrea bids the tree good bye and follows him. "Wait!" cries the tree in the distance, "let's sing songs. I'll go first." The tree starts singing to keep itself company. "I'll have to chop that one down too," says Maculay under his breath. At the cabin:
