Lord Fred is the one to see the creature erupt from the lake. A pure
black organic substance shot a hundred feet into the air. Sunlight
glinted off it, making it seem as if jewels were embedded into it.
"Run!" Lord Fred shouted to Astra, pushing her in the back. "Run faster
then you ever have!"
Astra was no fool. She didn't question her comapanion, she simply bolted
down the closest walkway that led from the pyramid. The thumping of feet
and the splash of falling water were the only nearby sounds.
Lord Fred followed on her heels, wanting (somewhat chirvarously) to be
between her and the D'eglon. The black creature from the lake was
something of myth and legend, believed only by young children and
elderly people who no longer recognized their loved ones. But it was
here now and real and if even half of what was said was true, they alone
could not stop it.
Four distinct agonized screams echoed out over the canopy surface. Lord
Fred's heart clenched in sympathy. Whatever the gaurd's manner of
exsistence, good or evil, none deserved to die in that much pain.
The two did not stop until a full mile seperated them from the entrance.
A careful look back revealed the gate. No gaurds and no black creatures
were in sight.
"A creature took the gaurds." Astra guessed. "I heard the water
splashing. Why weren't we taken when we were in the water?"
"I do not know."
A discussion commenced.
-
Our Heroes surmise if they were safe before, they would be safe upon entering the pyramid.
-
Our Heroes do not wish to risk it and they leave this entrance alone. They search and locate another way inside.
-
Our Heroes decide to leave the pyramid alone and quest forth to find other civilizations.
-
The creature attacks!
