Karen, The Portal And Mark

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 28687

Karen's face, half-covered in tentacle, showed joy when Mark appeared. Despite being dragged across an open section of library floor towards a purple tear in space by a green tentacle thing she knew her brother would try her best to save her.
Mark leapt forward and body slammed the tentacle. Karen's red head fetched up against his stomach. Mark clawed at the rubbery skin. It burst open and something screeched from the other side. Black ichor sprayed against Mark's face. It tasted horrible but he couldn't worry about that right now. He dug his fingers into the thing threatening his sister and whoa so tenacle something sprayed in mouth ooooo tranqualizer.
Mark blacked out.
Time passed.
"Mark. Oh no! Wake up, Mark!"
A coldness splashed against his face. Mark felt a rough hardness against his back. He was sitting against the stone wall outside the library. Hopefully. But it didn't smell so naturey in the parking lot. Fresher here. Pine cone scent. And water. His face was wet.
His eyes snapped open.
"Mark!" Karen cried. "Oh you're okay!"
Mark was sitting against a large, rectangular border. Tall trees surrounded them on all sides. The canopy was a hundred feet above, filled with birds and furry things. A bubbling river passed by ten feet away. Mark saw one of Karen's purple socks, stained back, floating merrily away.
"What's going on?" he asked, standing up.
"Another tentacle appeared after you killed the first one. It managed to grab both of us and pull us through. Then there was a flash of light and we were here. I used my sock to clean the gunk off and then you woke up."
Mark saw six hardback books on the rock. "Oh, those." Karen said. "I grabbed some, intending to smack the tentacle with it but it was too fast."
"Well, good thinking anyway, sis. Any idea where we are?"
"Nope. Dad might know, he watches all that Discovery. But I got no clue."
"Well, at least it's warm. Come on, grab some books."
"Fire material?" Karen asked.
"You read my mind. Too bad you weren't able to grab 'Survival In The Woods For Dummies'."
"Well, Piers Anthony and Spider Robinson. Always wanted to read them."
The two head out. But in which direction?

  1. Follow the river upstream.
  2. Follow it downstream.
  3. West.
  4. East.
