Without knowing where they were nor with whom they would have to deal,
they decided that the city would be better than the village. After
several hours' walking they arrived at the outskirts of their hoped-for
destination. They stood facing what had looked to be an odd-shaped
boulder from a distance. Now they saw it to be a carved obelisk. It
stood meters high with intricate carvings; pictographs and heliographs and
sigals.
"How beautiful," said Astra. In her homeland the few cities that dotted the plains and jungles and beaches were also decorated by arts of various kinds. Fred just shook his head, he wasn't sure if what he was looking at served as a sign-post or a warding... and if it were a warding, well, Fred did not like magic-users much (and even though he used magic to kill the Dragon, he justified it as fighting fire with fire). "We should look for the leader of this place," Fred said. "Though I could use a proper cooked meal, and I'm sure you could too, we must discover just exactly where we are." "Good thinking," agreed Astra. "Once we know where we are we can make plans to get back to our respective lands." "Indeed, I must get back to my King, he must learn of my success!" "And I must get back to my Queen, she will be most pleased that the Northern Caves are now free of that Mage-Wyrm!" "Ah," Fred said, "Here comes a local. Now we can find out where we are... Excuse me, good sir. Can you tell us what village this is and in what land we have found ourselves?"
