Looking for the Green Room

Before his unbelieving eyes stretched a massive chamber lit by thousands of candles set all throughout the walls. Strangely, the candles didn't go out despite a fierce wind that swirled through the chamber. Swirling through the air along with the wind were countless books, scraps of parchment, bottles of arcane specimens, at least a dozen meowling, flailing tabby kittens, and a robed and bearded man who was mumbling to himself. The man noticed Fred immediately and barked "Cletian! Did you bring the blue potion yet?! Where the hell have you been for the past week?!!"

Fred gasped as he burst out of the room and slammed the yellow door shut behind him. Suddenly he remembered the parchment he had been given. He unrolled and examined it - and to his surprise found it completely blank.

Groaning in consternation Fred tucked the parchment into his coat and continued down the corridor. The doors went on for a good long time, in every color of the rainbow and then some - but no green. At long last Fred reached the end of the corridor, and a plain wooden door with a plaque on it that read "Green Room: new arrivals enter here"

"At last!" Fred said and threw the door open. To his dismay, he stood before an ornate spiral staircase that led up and down, with no further indication of which way new arrivals should go.

1. Fred goes up the staircase.
2. Fred goes down the staircase.
