The Mage's Guild

Fred stood at the entrance to a long torchlit corridor, supported by massive wooden pillars. The passage continued on much farther than Fred could see. Fred shrugged and started walking.

A half hour later he stopped, dumbfounded. This had to be an illusion. There was no way this corridor could stretch on this far. Fred shook his head and pressed on. Another half-hour went by, and Fred became convinced he was lost forever in some alternate plane of existence. But then the corridor branched sharply to the right, and Fred arrived at a large oaken desk piled hight with books and scrolls.

A decrepit old lady behind the desk stared at him suspiciously through thick-rimmed glasses "State the nature of your business in the Mage Guild."

Behind her, the corridor ended in a massive iron door. Fred coughed and began "I am but a humble traveller, seeking membership in your esteemed and well-reknowned Guild. I know that..."

"Allright, allright!" the old lady interrupted irritably. She scribbled something on a piece of parchment, rolled it up and handed it to Fred. "Right through that door. Go to the Green Room."

"The Green Room?"

"Yes, the Green Room, you dolt! First corridor on the right, a room with a green door. Sheesh, where did they dig you up?"

She turned to her scrolls and paid Fred no more heed. Fred shrugged and made his way around the desk and through the iron door, which slammed shut loudly behind him. Fred winced. He followed the corridor until it indeed branched into two directions - right and left. What could the old lady have meant by 'first' corridor on the right?

1. Fred goes left.
2. Fred goes right.
