Fred quickly pulled himself and his companion Velus through the large hole
he has roughly hewn from the cold stone wall. Gasping for breath they last
with their backs to the floor, looking up at a high domed cavern.
"Tresspassers!" hisses a high pitched voice, and suddenly Fred began to
feel very sleepy......
.....and he awoke with a start, nearly hitting the top of his head on the
cage roof above him.
"Huh?" Fred muttered in a confused voice.
Near him he saw what looked like a beautiful woman standing near a boiling
cauldron being heared over black flames. Slowly she turned around and Fred
was shocked in utter amazement.
The woman was tall and thin, and dressed in simply a long blood red robe
of silk that hung from her shoulders and draped itself all the way to the
ground. Her hair was ebony black and fell straight down her back. What was
really surprising was that the beauty's skin was composed of small light
green scales. Her eyes were thin and yellow colored with irises like a
cat's.
She yawned and Fred saw vampirous teeth in her mouth and a long forked
tongue flicked over her lips. All together she was beautiful, yet still
demonic looking.
"Welcome back to the land of the waking," she said as soon as she say that
he was concious.
"W-w-what's going on?" Fred stammered.
"I am Azetral, Queen of the dark magics."
She noticed Fred staring at her and twirled atound in front of him.
"I see you staring at me. Tell me....do you find me beautiful?"
Fred was repulsed by her beautifully hideous form, but nodded quickly.
"Liar!" she screamed in rage," How can you find me beautiful? I am a
monster!"
She quieted down for a moment, then said," I once wasbeautiful, I was.
Then that Dragon captured me. He tortured me her....twisting my
flesh....my soul....now look at me!"
Fred could only stare in amazement, but he found that he was less
concerned with his captor and more concerned with finding his friend Velus.
"Ah you wonder where your friend it," she hissed, reading his mind like an
open book, "Well....he was quite tasty. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have
to go tidy up for the main course."
She left Fred sobbing in a pool of tears. She had eaten his friend, bones
and all, and he would never see Velus ever again. What could he do to
repay the poor transformed child?
Out of the corner of his eye, he spied a large leather bound book with
worn corners, lying open on the table beside his cage. Its pages looked
old and yellowed, but showed no signs of tearing. On the page he could see
were some words written in Druidic, one of the old languages, still used
by workers of black magic.
Trying to remember from his childhood studies he attempted to read the
page. It said:
To he that reads these pages true
Know your form when thou art you
A beasts head fixed upon your crown
And all thine life come tumbling down
"It turns the reader into what ever animal he reads a passage of?" said
Fred to himself," This could very well be my ticket out of here."
There were five choices un the page that he was able to read, and a sixth
he could not. Those he could read were:
1) A bat
2) A White Stallion
3) A Dragon
4) A Donkey
5) A Lion
Suddenly he heard Azetral comming back for her feast on him. He had to
decide quickly. What beast should he become to escape the foul creature
which held him here. Fred read the spell and transformed himself into a:
