Duel Monsters

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 25432

"I'll duel you!" Astra said, stepping forward. "Fred, Korval, someone give me a deck! You do have Duel Monsters decks, don't you?"

"Duel Monsters?" Velus asked. "What's that?"

"You wouldn't know, being a peasant." Korval explained. "It's a collectible trading card game designed by the enigmatic wizard Maximillian, and played exclusively by nobles. I indeed have a deck - so I will be the one to face this thinge in a duel! I happen to be one of the top-ranked duelists in all of Aqualaria!"

Suddenly Fred the simple kind-hearted country knight remembered the strange pyramidal puzzle that had been left to him by his Grandpa. As a child, Fred had spent hours and hours assembling it's golden interlocking pieces until the puzzle was complete. Now, he always wore it on a chain around his neck, as he felt a strange goodly energy emanating from it and protecting him. Now, he felt that force again, a hundred times stronger, as the puzzle began to glow!

"It's the Millenium Puzzle!" the monkey said. "What could a simpleton like you be doing with a Millenium Item? Regardless - it will make my victory all the sweeter!"

"YU-GI-OH!!!" Fred exclaimed involuntarily as the strange light enveloped him. When it faded away, he stood with a strange new confidence in his eyes. In a deeper, more determined voice, he spoke "Step aside, Joey... er, I mean Korval. I will be the one to face this mind-slave of Jeff's."

Korval didn't object, seeing the change that had come over his friend. Fred stepped forward, and the monkey leapt from the ceiling to face him. Fred took a deck from a pocket of his greatcoat. The monkey also produced a deck - from where, it is best not to know.

"You can go first." Fred said calmly.

"It doesn't matter." the monkey grinned. "I've annihilated the souls of hundreds of duelists! Only one fate awaits you at the end of this game - a one-way trip to the Shadow Realm!"

"You're wrong, Jeff. I will win." Fred said. "My Grandpa's deck has never let me down. The respect I have for my monsters, and my faith in the heart of the cards will see me through!"

"Respect? Ha!" the monkey laughed. "Monsters have only one use - to be sacrificed for any tactical advantadge! If that is really the way you play, then I will take great pleasure in breaking the heart of your cards!!"

  1. Fred goes first.
  2. Jeff goes first.
  3. They flip for it.
